For centuries, Memurubu has been a popular starting location for both humans and animals. With its beautiful and sheltered location at the mouth of the river Muru, on the middle of lake Gjende, Memurubu is the perfect basis for exploring Jotunheimen and many of our most famous mountain hikes.

The hike over Besseggen starts, or ends here, and the lodge is an excellent starting position for day trips to peaks of all sizes in the surrounding area. If you are travelling with young children, you can combine a few days at the lodge with tents in the Memurudalen valley.

Feeling peckish? Even if you are not staying with us, you are welcome to drop by our café and enjoy warm and cold beverages, waffles, snacks and light meals – all those things you dream of on your way up and down Besseggen.

We are part of the Jotunheimen Haute Route, and you can either use us as a pit stop on a longer trip, or stay here a few days and explore peaks such as Surtningssue and Besshø – or how about hiking over Besseggen on skis?
