Memurubu in the old days |
Memurubu used to be an old mountain farm and the first lodge to welcome tourists was build in 1872. This was only the fourth lodge or cabin that the norwegian tourist association (DNT) established, and since then the mountain lodge has been in private own.
The Sveine family from Lom has owned Memurubu for many years now, and today's owner is Kjetil Sveine.
In the old days tourists used to stay in stone cabins together with milkmaids and other people working in the mountains. Then a wooden cabin was build, befor a larger log cabin with two floors was raised in 1884, at that time a majestic building in the mountains.
In 1925 an extension containing many rooms was build, and this served as the main building until 1988, when a new building was set up and ready to welcome visiting guests. In the summer of 2002 a new and modern building replaced the old one.
